While a Navy wife, raising three children as a stay at home mom, I had to learn to budget and be creative in the ways I did things to make that little paycheck stretch. Helpful hints became a passion for me and I still collect them. I love finding a new way to reuse an item, ways to make my own cleaners, and anything to save me time and money.
Today I was reading an article that I thought I would share with you. I make coffee everyday, so never have a lack of coffee grounds. This article is from Mother Earth Living Magazine. http://www.motherearthliving.com/healthy-home/green-living/uses-for-coffee-grounds-zmhz15mazhou.aspx?utm_source=sailthru&utm_medium=onsite

Anytime I am asked if I would like a frequent shopper card, I say "Yes!". I was working at Walmart, so I had my discount card. Since I did most of my shopping there, I got my discount, except on food. I also shopped at Food Lion, so used my VIP card there to get a good discount.
I don't have either of them any more since I moved. When I shop at Walmart, I make sure I log my receipt on Saving Catcher, which I wrote about earlier. I have signed up for ever shopper card, at every store I shop at. They have saved me money at City Market, Walgreens, and KMart. The best part is, if I don't carry my cards with me, I can still get a discount with my phone number. My big shopping event was at Kmart. I quit shopping at Kmart at my last location. I have rediscovered it and the store here is very nice. I have my frequent shopper card and had a surprise when I went the other day just to pick up a few items. My total was $16.60. The cashier told me I had $10 in credits and I was given the option to use it on my purchase. Well, sure! My total was $6.60. I have only shopped at Kmart a couple of times, but the points accumulated quickly. This same card applies at Sears also. I discovered yet another way to try to put money in my bank. I am new to this one, so will let you know if it works. Dreamstime is a site that will pay you royalties for stock photos. Stock photos can be as simple as an apple to complicated as a arranged still life. You can add thousands of photos at a time to increase the chance of someone buying your photo to use on their website, blog, banner, poster, etc. They also run contests. Until 11 Jan, they are looking for unique winter photos. If you like to use your camera, check it out. This is only one of many sites that sell photos. I am going to start here and work my way up.
Here is a free sample I found today. They go quick, so you need to get order soon.
http://pm.advil.com/freesample If you have a blog, website, twitter account, here is an affiliate site to hook up with. Get money for each click. http://bst.is/L1UKW8
I have been working with a couple of sites that will pay me for my efforts. It is very slow going, but with work, it can add up. Wikinut is a company out of the UK so they pay in pounds, which is converted in your paypal account. To write with wikinut, the content has to be strong and go through a moderator. They check the quality, grammar and spelling before they will publish the article. They also check for any possible copyright issues.
After your article is published, you get points for every reader, every person that follows you, every comment, and a point just for signing into the site. It is not a get rich quick site, but it helps me brush up on my writing and connect with some other writers. If you are interested in it, here is the link: http://www.wikinut.com/in/qmkosk/ Do you shop at Walmart? I love that they match competitors, but I am not interested in digging through all the local flyers, matching the items, and trying to keep them organized during my shopping so the cashier can easily price match them. So what I use to get the same discounts is the Saving Catcher. You can use the app on your phone or log onto Walmart.com and list your receipt number. Walmart will give you the savings and you can load it onto an e-card for future shopping trips. Depending on your shopping habits, it can add up quickly.
I love free stuff. For many years, I have ordered freebies. I also enter sweepstakes. I even win sometimes. Some of my past wins have been a Dow Toilet Bowl Brush, air freshener, a box of Mrs. Meyers cleaning supplies (loved it!), make up and more. The number one win was when we lived in the Azores. I entered in a drawing and won a thousand dollar shopping spree at the commissary. 5 minutes to collect $1000 worth of food and diapers (I had two babies at the time). What fun that was!
I would like to share with you a site I go to frequently. You can win cooking and kitchen supplies. There are several pages of things to win. Try it. You might get lucky. Lietes Culinaria http://leitesculinaria.com/category/giveaways Ok, here are some ideas to help you deal with the cold you might be suffering.
My brother has not been sick with a cold for 10 years. His doctor told him to start using a saline nose spray when a cold starts to set in. It has helped keep colds at bay. If your nose is stuffy, suck a peppermint. Peppermint helps open the nasal passages. The stronger the better. Chicken noodle soup does the same. It also helps rehydrate and energize the body. Or eat some horseradish. In the olden days, a mustard plaster was used to relieve chest congestion. You can do the same by rubbing yellow mustard on your chest and place a warm wet wash cloth over it. Drinking hot tea helps replace lost bodily fluids, and relieves congestion. To help you sleep at night, eat a teaspoon of honey or add it to some hot tea. I thought the caffeine would keep me awake, but I have found I sleep better if I have a cup of tea with honey and lemon in it before bed. https://www.fiverr.com/cotightwad
I joined fiverr.com a few years ago. I have certain things that I like to do such as genealogy, writing web content, research, write letters, and take photos of headstones. So I have set up "gigs" doing these things. People pay me five or more dollars for my services. Am I getting rich? No, but I have made over $50 and hope to make more as my rating increase. Gigs vary from people making short videos, selling photos, voice overs, sending odd greetings, and so much more. Some are serious, some are funny. It is a good place to go to if you want to make a few bucks, or if you are interested in buying a gig. |
